“They Danced to the Song of Madness” by Tina McFarlane

They danced to the song of madness
Of enchantments and worms
All in swirls of devilish turn

The music was broken
It fed them just enough
To keep them from starving

In time they kept
But in each head
The song was different

In pairs or alone
They danced and danced

Some fast

Some slow

To their own tune
Finding their rhythm

A strange thing that
In all this madness
That they should find
their place

A place that many of us
never find
Makes you wonder
who really is the mad one here.
