“Take a Picture” by Joseph Vasquez

I don’t know if it’s much of a fad anymore, but I remember when people would take pictures of their food and post it online, I’ve never understood this, as a matter of fact, I can’t quite stomach it- pun intended.

I can’t justify showing off something that I’m fortunate enough to have while so many people in the world don’t know when their next meal is coming. As a society, are we that self-centered that we have to flaunt every single privilege?

I was taught that wasting food is one of the worst things you could do. I can’t lie, it still happens, but for the most part, if I don’t eat something one of my dogs’ will.

It would be great if all social media would show a picture of someone based on the captions or hashtags:

“Oh, you’re starving? Let’s see your ribs like these kids.”

Or better yet, a prompt to donate to someone before posting.

“There are several homeless people in the city, would you like to donate a meal to one?”

I live in beautiful, sunny Southern California, the longest I’ve gone without a dog is two weeks, and I’m going to write until I can’t anymore.
