Horror Author Interview!! Meet Stephen Barnard

Define yourself in two lines.

Writer of horror and sci-fi/fantasy who has recently given up the day job to focus on what he loves!

What was your first work as a writer?

Lots of stuff as a teen but first published when I wrote a non-fiction book for my struggling but optimistic cricket club. Different kind of horror!

What are you working on right now?

Stand-alone horror novel ‘The Deleted’, and a sequel to my Sci-fi saga ‘Portentous’.

Coffee, tea or wine?

Coffee AM, Wine PM.

What is the worst and best part of the writing process?

Best is when the characters take over and take your story to places you didn’t think it would go. Worst is when marketing takes over and you’ve got to work hard to find readers!

Tell us a quote you love and why.

“Every man is guilty of all the good he did not do.” – Voltaire. In my role as a teacher it was useful to challenge passivity and bystanders.

What is your life’s philosophy?

At the minute, make sure you have no regrets and end up thinking ‘if only’.

Tell us about your work, which titles you have published and where to find them?

You’ll find me on Amazon, downloadable for Kindles etc.

Horror stuff: ‘Corner House’  – unsettling and claustrophobic novel; ‘A Very Bad Year’ – short horror stories, one for every month; ‘Unlucky Numbers’ – horror shorts again, this time each with a number, pattern or sequence theme.

What is a mistake you wouldn’t make again as a writer?

Self-doubt – have faith in the story you want to tell.

Batman or Spiderman?

Batman, definitely. Too much cheeriness with the webslinger.

If you found a winning lottery ticket, what is the first thing you would do?

Treat my family.

What inspires you?

Success in adversity; people not giving up, and then going on to achieve.

What do you love?

Indian food and a good scare… although not at the same time.

What do you hate?

Arrogance; dishonesty.

Where can readers find you?
